An Israeli military reconnaissance satellite was launched Tuesday from an air force base, the New York Times reports.
The Offeq-9 satellite will help Israel directly monitor the region, including Iran, said Chaim Eshed, the director of the Israeli military space program.
Government officials said they should be able to validate the satellite's operational capability and begin receiving the first high-resolution pictures by Friday, Defense News reported.
