Military Holds Exercises Near Iraqi Border Before Planned Kurdish Referendum

Turkey's military has begun an unannounced military exercise near the border with Iraq ahead of a planned independence referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan, reports the Daily Sabah (Turkey).

The Kurdistan Regional Government, which governs the semi-autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq, has scheduled an independence referendum for Sept. 25.
