The Ukrainian Defense Ministry says it will reduce its military by up to 20 percent, bringing it to about 150,000-160,000 personnel in five years, RIA Novosti reports.
There are currently about 200,000 personnel in Ukraine's armed forces.
The proposed cuts are part of a reorganization of the military, said defense officials.
The plan also calls for military spending to grow by 15 to 20 percent per year through 2015.
