The Israeli General Staff is expected to approve the purchase of a second squadron of F-35 Joint Strike Fighters at a meeting later this month, reports the Jerusalem Post.
The multi-year Joint Strike Fighter program is set to take effect by the end of the year.
Israel ordered an initial squadron of 20 aircraft in October 2010. That number could change if unit costs rise too much, said officials.
The potential follow-on order would be for a similar number of aircraft.
