Military Benefits Called Impediment To Modernization Efforts

A report issued by a Washington think tank has called for significant benefit cuts in the armed forces in order to pay for modernization programs, reports the Air Force Times.

The study by the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments recommends cutting the cost of permanent change-of-station moves by extending tour lengths by 50 percent, revamping benefits programs to require more than 20 years of service to earn retirement pay and charging more for health benefits.
