Seventeen Indian soldiers have been killed in an assault on their base in Uri in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, reports CNN.
The militants entered the base early Sunday morning. It was one of the deadliest attacks on an Indian army facility since 1989, said Indian officials.
Four militants were killed several hours later in a gunbattle with Indian troops.
It was not immediately clear which militant group was involved in the the attack.
