There has been heavy fighting between government forces and rebels accused of kidnapping 20 civilians in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, says military and civilian sources, as cited by Agence France-Presse.
The clashes took place on Sunday in the Beni region of North Kivu province, which is near the border with Uganda.
