Militant Leader Among Those Killed In Dagestan Gun Battle

Officials say that Russian police have killed eight militants, including a terrorist leader, in the republic of Dagestan in the North Caucasus region, United Press International reports.

Magomed Sheikhov was killed Sunday in a shootout in Makhachkala, the republic's capital, said police. He was reportedly appointed as the "emir" of the city three months ago.

The militants were suspected of killing a police officer last week in Makhachkala.
