The Yemeni Defense Ministry says its security forces have driven off an attack by Al-Qaida militants in the southern Abyan province, reports Xinhua, China's state news agency.
Dozens of fighters attempted to sneak into an army base in Zinjibar late Monday night, the ministry said.
At least 23 militants were killed, including fighters identified as a Pakistani and a Somali, according to a statement. One soldier was killed and another reportedly injured in the fighting.
