October 12 2009

Russia

The Russian navy has decided to buy at least 24 MiG-29K fighters for service on the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, reports RIA Novosti.

Deliveries of the aircraft are slated to begin in 2010, according to an unnamed Defense Ministry official.

The order for 24 aircraft is expected to be worth about US$1 billion.

The new MiG-29Ks are expected to replace the Su-33 carrier-based fighters.
