MiG-21 Goes Down In Possible N. Korean Defection Attempt

A North Korean MiG-21 fighter crashed on Tuesday in northeastern China, in what some sources say may have been a defection attempt, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The North Korean pilot was killed in the incident, which occurred about 100 miles (160 km) from the Chinese-North Korean border, Chinese officials said.

China has a repatriation pact with North Korea and often returns economic refugees to Pyongyang, which could explain why the pilot might have been headed to Russia,...
