President Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to an Army staff sergeant on Tuesday. Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta became the first living service member to receive the award for action in any war since Vietnam, reports the New York Times.
According to the narrative of the events, Giunta, now 25, was a specialist when his company was ambushed on Oct. 25, 2007, in the Korengal Valley in eastern Afghanistan.
