The Pentagon has established its first tri-service joint base with the merger of three bases in New Jersey, reports the Press of Atlantic City (N.J.).
McGuire Air Force Base, Fort Dix and Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station were officially merged on Thursday into the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
The Air Force is slated to take command of the joint facility.
The merger was ordered under the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) legislation.
