The U.S. Marine Corps has been experimenting with three howitzers to determine which could best support small teams operating independently in the future, reports the Marine Corps Times.
The service is shifting toward a new doctrine focused on company landing teams that deploy independently for weeks at a time.
Marine artillerists are trying to determine the best weapon to support such teams.
