Marines Eye New Sniper Rifle

The Marine Corps is studying a new sniper rifle that would almost double the range of the existing model, the Marine Corps Times reports.
The SR21 has a range of 1,500 meters, compared to the 800-meter maximum effective range of the bolt-action M40 that was introduced in 1966.
The range of the M40 was called a weakness in a 2007 Marine assessment of the sniper community.
