Marines Activate Another F-35 Squadron On Okinawa

The U.S. Marine Corps has formally redesignated one of its units in Okinawa as its second overseas squadron to operate the F-35 stealth fighter, reports the Stars & Stripes.
On Oct. 16, Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 242 (VMFA(AW)-242) was redesignated as Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 242 (VMFA-242) as part of the service’s transition from the F/A-18 Hornet to the F-35B Lightning II, the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing announced on Oct. 23.
