The Marine Corps deputy commandant for manpower and reserve affairs is scheduled to retire Friday at Quantico, Va., the Marine Corps Times reports.
The retirement decision by Lt. Gen. Richard Zilmer reportedly caught many of those in his command by surprise. The general said he has been discussing it with senior leadership and his family for months.
