U.S. officials say Defense Secretary Robert Gates appears ready to cancel the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) program, the Marine Corps Times reports.
Gates is expected to announce cuts to several projects on Thursday morning.
The EFV was intended to replace the aging amphibious assault fleet. Widespread technical failures forced the Marines to restart the program's entire development and demonstration phase in 2007.
