Marine Corps Commandant David Berger has dropped the service’s strict requirement for 38 amphibious warships, reports the Marine Corps Times.
The commandant's remarks came in a planning document posted on July 16.
According to Berger, the Corps will no longer be conducting amphibious assaults from large fleets parked close to the shore, as such operations would be “impractical and unreasonable.” As such, the commandant dropped the 38 ship goal, first drafted in 2009, which formed...
