The U.S. Marine Corps is expected to send a contingent to Afghanistan to advise local security forces, reports Military.com.
The Marine element will replace an Army unit with the same mission, according to Maj. Gen. John Love, the commander of the 2nd Marine Regiment.
Marines previously served in Afghanistan's southwestern Helmand province. A team was retained in Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital, where the provincial police force is headquartered.
