The U.N. Security Council has extended the mandate for member states to battle pirates off the coast of Somalia, reports the Voice of America News.
The one-year extension lays the legal foundation for a European Union anti-piracy operation slated to begin next week.
The resolution authorizes U.N. members to take all necessary means to fight piracy, including force.
