The Australian military has announced that male and female enlisted sailors will use the same sleeping quarters on the Collins-class submarines, reports the Age (Australia).
Officers and non-commissioned officers have used mixed cabins for some time, though junior enlisted sailors were segregated by sex.
The announcement follows a decision to allow female soldiers in the Australian army to serve on the front lines within 18 months under new sex-neutral physical tests.
