Major Defense Budget Increase Linked To Improved Economy

President Joko Widodo says he will double Indonesia's defense spending in 2016 if the economy grows by 7 percent, reports Antara News, Indonesia's national news agency.
The president promised to allocate US$15.9 billion for defense next year, up from the US$7.4 billion set for 2015.
Widodo made his pledge during the ceremonial groundbreaking for the construction of a new hospital at the Jakarta Regional Military Command.
