The U.S. Navy plans to send a littoral combat ship (LCS) to the U.S. Southern Command area of operations later this year, reports Military.com.
The ship will be focused on counternarcotics missions. It will also train with partner nations and provide humanitarian assistance, Adm. Craig Faller told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Feb. 8.
The admiral did not identify which ship would undertake the deployment, noted the Navy Times.
