India's indigenous Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) recently completed air-to-air missile trials, reports the Print (New Delhi).
During tests earlier this month, the LCH successfully fired Mistral air-to-air missiles at an aerial target, destroying it, said a Hindustan Aeronautics spokesman.
The was the first time an Indian combat helicopter had performed an aerial engagement, company officials said.
The helicopter has completed weapon integration tests and is ready to enter service, said HAL.
Tests of the chopper's 20-mm turret gun and 70-mm rockets were completed last year.
The Indian Defense Ministry has approved the procurement of 10 LCHs for the air force and five for the army at a cost of about US$406 million.
