A key Al-Qaida leader was killed last week in a raid in the northern city of Mosul, United Press International reports.
In a joint release, U.S. and Iraqi military forces said that Abu Khalaf was killed Jan. 22 when he attacked a member of their unit during "a warranted operation," after breaking free from his restraints.
Khalaf has been linked to insurgent operations in Syria, where he served since 2006 as a facilitator for the transit of foreign fighters into Iraq.
