Kenya's Arms Dealing With Southern Sudan Revealed In Leaked Cables

Leaked U.S. diplomatic cables show that a shipment of Soviet-era tanks hijacked by Somali pirates in September 2008 was bound for southern Sudan, the New York Times reports.
U.S. diplomats asked Kenya to stop such shipments in 2009, said the cables, as noted by the BBC.
The pirates found the 32 T-72 tanks and other weapons on board a Ukrainian freighter bound for Kenya. Both governments maintained the shipment was for the Kenyan military.
