The Russian Admiralteiskiye Verfi shipyard in St. Petersburg on Friday laid the keel for a new submarine that will serve in the Black Sea Fleet, reports Interfax-AVN.
The Project 636 submarine, a modified Kilo-class boat, is part of a long-term program to re-equip the Black Sea Fleet, according to navy officials.
Two more subs of the same type bound for the Black Sea Fleet are slated to begin construction by the end of the year.
