The Gorky Plant in Zelenodolsk on Friday laid the keel for the first ship in a new class of fast attack craft for the Russian navy, reports Interfax-AVN.
The Grad Sviyazhsk, part of Project 21631, is expected to be assigned to the Caspian Flotilla.
The ship will measure 243 feet (74.1 m) long, 36 feet (11 m) wide, have a top speed of 25 knots (46 kmh), and be capable of river and sea navigation.
The navy plans to build five ships of the type.
