Spanish shipbuilder Navantia has laid the keel for the first of five Avante 2200 corvettes for the Saudi navy, reports the Saudi Press Agency.
The keel-laying ceremony was held on Wednesday at Navantia’s San Fernando shipyard in Cadiz, Spain.
The project is a joint venture between Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) and Navantia.
The vessels are scheduled to be delivered by 2023.
