Joshi To Become Next Navy Chief

An anti-submarine warfare specialist has been named to head the Indian navy.

Vice Adm. Devender Kumar Joshi will replace Adm. Nirmal Verma, who is scheduled to retire on Aug. 31, reports the Times of India.

The appointment is for three years, according to Tuesday's announcement.

Joshi now heads the Western Naval Command and has also commanded the carrier Viraat.

Joshi will also be promoted to admiral, reported India's Economic Times.
