The U.K., Italy and Japan have announced that they will work together on a new sixth-generation fighter jet, reports the BBC News.

The Tempest jet, projected to enter service in the mid-2030s, is slated to eventually replace the Eurofighter Typhoon in British and Italian service.

The fighter is expected to carry the latest weapons, including hypersonic weapons, and feature advanced autopilot capabilities.

Development is underway, with the goal of creating a combat aircraft with speed, stealth, advanced sensors and artificial intelligence.
