Islamic State Still A Threat Despite Territorial Losses, Says U.S. Military

Though U.S.-backed forces in Iraq and Syria have cleared Islamic State fighters from more than 97 percent of the territory it once controlled, the terrorist group remains a threat, says a U.S. military spokesman cited by the Stars and Stripes.
There are fewer than 3,000 ISIS fighters in Iraq and Syria, with most of those confined to small pieces of land that the group still occupies along the Euphrates River south of Raqqa in eastern Syria, according to the U.S. military.
