France and Germany have awarded initial contracts to launch development of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), reports Aviation Week & Space Technology.
The contracts, worth 155 million euros (US$168 million) and equally funded by the two countries, were announced late on Wednesday.
Earlier on Wednesday, the German Parliament approved funding for the initial phase of the FCAS program, reported Deutsche Welle.
