An opposition figure and human-rights activist in the Russian republic of Ingushetia was killed Sunday morning when his car was sprayed with automatic-weapons fire, the New York Times reports.
Maksharip Aushev was driving down a federal highway in the neighboring republic of Kabardino-Balkaria when attacked, said security officials. A passenger in his car was also wounded.
Aushev attained prominence after his son and nephew were kidnapped in 2007. He blamed the state security...
