A Kansas-based brigade has been named as the first unit to be aligned with a specific unified combatant command in the U.S. Army, reports the Army News Service.
The 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan., will begin serving as the main force provider for U.S. Africa Command in March 2013.
The decision to align the "Dagger Brigade" is part of a wider effort to provide partners with allies around the world, said officials.
