If Navy Researchers Get Their Way, Personnel May Sport Synthetic Hagfish Slime Vests

Scientists at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division, Fla., have successfully created a synthetic version of hagfish slime with properties similar to Kevlar ballistic armor, reports the Military Times.

Also called slime eels, the Pacific hagfish scavenges food along the sea floor. They also secrete a protective viscous slime when attacked by predators that could help with ballistics protection, according to Navy experts.
