India and Russia have decided to develop a hypersonic variant of the BrahMos cruise missile that is jointly produced by the two nations, reports Interfax-AVN (Russia).
Work has already begun on a new-generation Brahmos-2 missile, said Sivathanu Pillai, the head of the BrahMos Aerospace joint venture.
Hypersonic missiles have numerous advantages over conventional weapons, particularly in speed, precision and power, Pillai said.
