Huntington Ingalls Industries Mission Technologies has debuted a new medium-class uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV).
The REMUS 620 is a development of the REMUS 300, which the U.S. Navy recently chose as its Lionfish small UUV, the company said in a release on Monday.
The new underwater vehicle has a battery life of up to 110 hours and a range of 275 nm (509 km), providing significant capabilities for missions such as mine countermeasures, hydrographic surveys, intelligence collection, surveillance and electronic warfare.
It is the first medium UUV designed to accurately conduct such missions, above and below water, at long range, according to company officials.
The REMUS 620 features a modular, open architecture design for easy payload integration and the HII Odyssey suite of advanced autonomy capabilities.
Several of the UUVs can operate collaboratively while deployed from submarines; small uncrewed or crewed boats; amphibious ships; and surface combat helicopters. It also can serve as a platform to launch and operate other uncrewed vehicles.
