Hornet Fighter Crashes On Takeoff Outside Madrid; Pilot Killed

A Spanish air force F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet has crashed on the outskirts of Madrid, killing its pilot, says the Spanish Defense Ministry, as cited by the Independent (U.K.).

The jet was taking off on Tuesday morning from the Torrejon de Ardoz air base when it went down, a ministry spokesman said.

An investigation has begun of the crash, said the ministry.
