HMS Albion To Inherit Royal Navy Flagship Role

December 06 2010

United Kingdom

Devonport-based HMS Albion has been named as the new flagship of the British Royal Navy, reports Defence Management.

The amphibious transport dock replaces the carrier Ark Royal, which is scheduled to be decommissioned next year.

The Ark Royal returned to Portsmouth on Friday for the last time, ending 25 years of service.

The carrier completed a farewell voyage around the U.K., including a final launch of Harrier fighters at Newcastle.
