On Oct. 26, 2026, German military AI company Helsing unveiled Contra, an autonomous air defense system, along with two new interceptor missiles, AD-1 Inferno and AD-2 Ambush.
Contra uses AI to combine sensor and weapon data into a single view, allowing it to engage thousands of threats at once while humans remain in control of key decisions. The jet-powered AD-1 can loiter, swarm, and re-engage targets, while the rocket-powered AD-2 reaches Mach 2.5 with a range beyond 20 km. The system can also integrate other defenses such as lasers and guns, and its missiles will be mass-produced at a lower cost than existing interceptors.
