After a year in captivity in the Sahara region, an Italian woman has been released by Al-Qaida's North African branch, reports CNN.
Maria Sandra Mariani was kidnapped in February 2011 by Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) in southern Algeria near the border with Niger.
She was released on Tuesday and was expected to arrive home by Wednesday, said Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi. A later report noted she had arrived in Italy after being released in Burkina Faso,...
