Russia has scheduled to start state testing of the newest model of the Kalashnikov assault rifle next year, reports RIA Novosti.
The AK-200, based on the AK-74M, is about 1 pound (0.5 kg) heavier with a magazine capable of carrying 30, 50 or 60 rounds, according to the head of the Izhmash plant that manufactures the weapon.
The additional weight is due to a bar for mounting external systems, such as optical sights, laser pointers or lights, reported Interfax-AVN.
