Halifax Shipbuilder Gets Nod To Head Surface Combat Ship Program

The Canadian government has selected Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as the prime contractor for the navy's surface combatant warship program, reports CBC News.

The program projects 15 new frigates.

The choice, announced Tuesday, could potentially allow the company to make profits as both the shipbuilder and prime contractor. It also gives Irving Shipbuilding a significant role in selecting subcontractors.
