Gunmen on a motorcycle shot and killed a former Pakistani lawmaker on Thursday in the town of Tank in northwest Pakistan, the Canadian Press reports.
Maulana Merajuddin, a cleric and onetime South Waziristan lawmaker, was working with the government to help displaced citizens return to the region.
He had also been helping to broker deals between the government and the Taliban, reported Reuters.
He was returning home from morning prayers when he was killed, said police.
