Nearly 2,000 prisoners in Imo state in southeastern Nigeria have been freed in an attack on their jail, reports the Premium Times (Abuja).
Early Monday morning, gunmen used explosives to blast open the administrative block at the Owerri Custodial Center and gain access to the facility.
The attack, which lasted about three hours, freed 1,844 prisoners at the facility, although six later voluntarily returned. Thirty-five prisoners declined to escape, officials said.
