Ground, Air Forces At Odds Over Air Support Officers

The Israeli Ground Forces Command wants the air force to provide more air support officers to coordinate air strikes during large operations, reports the Jerusalem Post.

The air force is not keen on the request.

Air support officers, a position created in the aftermath of the 2006 war in Lebanon, have generally been reservist pilots stationed with infantry and armored brigades.

The reserve pilots receive special training in directing air support for ground troops.
