Gripens To Be Procured With Sweden, Delivery Delayed

Switzerland has decided to combine its planned purchase of 22 Gripen fighters with Sweden's own Gripen program, reports the Swiss Dept. of Defense, Civil Protection and Sports.

In November 2011, Switzerland decided to buy the JAS-39 Gripens to replace its aging Tiger fighters. Sweden has announced plans to order up to 80 of the aircraft.

While negotiations are not yet complete, Switzerland will share the costs of development, said defense officials.
