The Ivory Coast government says it will release several allies of opposition leader Guillaume Soro in an effort to calm tensions ahead of the upcoming presidential election, reports Reuters.
Several detainees, including five lawmakers, are set to be released, a government spokesman said on Wednesday.
The lawmakers were arrested over an alleged coup plot in December 2019 that led to Soro’s current exile in Paris.
Some of those released may still face prosecution, the spokesman said....
